During 2002, some 2114 South African nurses came to Britain looking for work and neighbouring Botswana lost 120 of its nurses to the UK.
From 2002 to 2003, 13,000 non-EU foreign nurses registered to work in the UK. 3,472 of these came from the developing world.
By October 2003, around 7000 South African doctors were on the permanent register of the UK General Medical Council.
Southern African countries have suffered severe shortages of skilled personal for a number of years, especially in the medical and teaching professions. The situation continues to get worse.
The shortages experienced by these countries in professional personnel holds back their development. The lack of health and education services has a knock-on effect leading to a weakening of the general infrastructure. All this cannot help but promote further migration to Britain of other sections of the third world population as their needs cease to be met at home. At the very least, it acts as an impetus for 'health tourism'. It forces people to come to Britain for treatment that Africa's depleted health services cannot offer.
The arrival in the NHS of so many immigrant workers prepared to accept lower levels of pay leads to British workers leaving the service as wages are driven down. Around one third of British nurses are currently set to leave the service because of low pay and poor conditions. No doubt New Labour plans to fill the resulting vacancies with yet more health workers stolen from the third world".
Where did I find this story?
At the British National Party website.
I cross-checked the BNP's statistics, by the way, to see if they were exaggerating or "spinning" the story.
They were not. The stats were accurate.
BIOLOGICAL GBH
In May, 2004, Feston Konzani was found guilty of Biological GBH at Teeside Crown Court and sentenced to ten years in prison.
On the 6th of May, 2004, the BBC reported thus:
"A British diplomat paid for his gay African lover to travel to England and claim asylum, a court has heard.
High Commission attaché Christopher Henderson met Feston Konzani while he was on government business in Malawi. The revelation came during the trial of Mr. Konzani, 28, who denies causing grievous bodily harm to four women by inflicting them with the HIV virus…
Mr Konzani is accused of infecting the four women by having unprotected sex with them.
Mr Henderson… admitted that under Malawi law homosexuality was illegal. The court was told that Mr. Henderson, who worked as a political attaché for the High Commission in Malawi, had unprotected sex with Mr. Konzani after giving him a job as a trainee houseboy at his official residence.
After returning to England, the government official kept in touch with Mr. Konzani through a mutual friend in Malawi to the point where he sent money to cover his airfare to England. The court was told the diplomat also faxed immigration advice, which included the line:
‘Destroy this once you have read it’.…
The women range in age from 15 to 37 and include… three English women. He has pleaded not guilty…
Mr Konzani was diagnosed with the condition after one girlfriend who became pregnant by him, discovered she had it and made him have the tests".
On the 7th of May, 2004, the BBC also said:
"A teenage girl was kept captive by a musician who infected her with the HIV virus when he had unprotected sex with her at the age of 15, a court heard. The girl, now 18, said she met Feston Konzani, 28, in a Middlesbrough street and moved in with him within weeks.
The girl told Teesside Crown Court Mr. Konzani took her virginity and had sex with her on a daily basis during which he kept her locked inside their house… She told the court she was only able to speak with her friends through a window and she eventually escaped by climbing through a window while he was out".
Two of his victims have since given birth to his children. This is Feston Konzani:

On the 9th of March, 2004, 50-year-old Hayes resident Diane Elmer was stabbed near the Redbrick Estate in Hayes, London, and died in hospital.
Tony Lee and Ahmed Shirze were sentenced to life for murdering Diane.
Lee was also sentenced to seven years and a further three years for GBH assaults on other residents of the same estate, to run concurrently.
A 17-year-old black youth was also sentenced to four months imprisonment for assault on residents of Redbrick Estate.
Diane was attacked because Lee was trying to set up a drug dealing empire and wrongly believed she was a "grass".
She named Lee as her killer as she lay dying after being stabbed in the heart and beaten with a wooden stave.
John McDonnell, MP for Hayes and Harlington, never mentioned Diane in the House of Commons. (For McDonnell's PC credentials, go here)
Diane is seen here, alongside Lee and Shirze, the drug dealers who murdered her.
On the 11th of March, 2003, 19-year-old Georgina Adamson was murdered at her flat in the Elephant & Castle, south London.
The South London Press reported thus:
"A paranoid schizophrenic who killed his teenage girlfriend by slashing her throat has been locked up in hospital indefinitely.
Richard Norman, 32, stabbed 19-year-old Georgina Adamson more than 20 times with a carving knife as she lay on her bed.
The Old Bailey heard how Norman had stopped taking his medication before the attack at Miss Adamson's flat on the Heygate Estate, Elephant & Castle.
Miss Norman (sic) was pronounced dead at the scene with at least nine slashes to her neck and up to 15 other stab wounds to her body. Last month, Norman pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
The court heard how the couple had argued on the night leading up to the attack on March 11. Prosecutor Sallie Bennett-Jenkins said:
'He went to the kitchen, picked up the knife and began stabbing her in the neck, then kept on stabbing her.'
The court also heard Norman had previously spent two years in a secure hospital for trying to burn down a mosque in 1997.
On Friday, Judge Martin Stephens ordered Norman be sent to a medium-security hospital indefinitely. He said:
'You took the life of an unfortunate young woman when your responsibility for acting was made less by your schizophrenia'."
So that's alright, then.
I have not been able to determine Norman's ethnicity. Nor, for that matter, have I been able to determine Georgina's.
So, although I have my suspicions, I will not be adding this case to the MURDER statistics.
On the 11th of March, 2004, 13-year-old Ryan Hilton was rescued from a fire in an alleyway on Brown Street, Oldham.
He died later in Royal Oldham Hospital.
He had been set alight by his "friend", 15-year-old Chantelle Dunkerley.
On the 29th of October, 2004, The Manchester Evening News reported thus:
"A schoolgirl who had been sniffing aerosols killed her teenage friend by dousing him with petrol and putting a cigarette lighter to his face.
Ryan Hilton, 13, was so badly burned after the incident in a blocked-off alleyway in Oldham that he died in hospital a few hours later...
Nick Clarke, prosecuting, said Chantelle Dunkerley, of Egerton Street, Oldham, Ryan and a third boy aged 13, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had taken a petrol can and the lighter from a car before buying aerosols.
He said they had then gone into an alleyway off Brown Street in Oldham, where Ryan began to sniff the petrol.
Chantelle, now 16, and the other boy were sniffing aerosols when Ryan accidentally spilled some of the petrol on her leg.
Chantelle picked up the can and poured it over Ryan's head. Then she put the lighter near his head and, according to the other boy, flicked it twice.
The boy told police he thought she had been sniggering at the time.
Chantelle told officers she was trying to make a 'smiley' on Ryan's face - a trick children use to make marks on each other's skin that look like smiling faces with the top of a hot lighter.
'Ryan was engulfed in flames', Mr. Clarke said. 'When fire-fighters arrived he was standing upright and on fire'.
He said Chantelle had a history of criminal behaviour and been the subject of an Anti-Social Behaviour Order.
Ryan died while Chantelle was on bail for other offences.
Peter Wright QC, defending, said... she had written to Ryan's family to apologise".
Ryan's mother, Karen, said:
"I am struggling to come to terms with the loss of my baby boy. It hasn't sunk in that he won't be coming home".
A Manchester Crown Court judge did not find Dunkerley guilty of murder. They did, however, sentence her to 39 months detention for manslaughter on the grounds of gross negligence.
I cannot be sure of Chantelle Dunkerley's ethnicity, thus I will not be including this case in the MURDER statistics.
This is Ryan:
On the 12th of March, 2004, a 26-year-old man was attacked with a sword in the Groove City record shop in Nottingham.
He was stabbed by a fellow shopper when staff refused to give him the records he wanted. A police spokesman said the injured man had intervened when the man became violent and added:
"He attempted to negotiate with the man in an attempt to calm him down after he became agitated with staff and demanded a number of records he had selected on a visit the previous day. |
